The Center for Social Stability from Novi Sad is organizing public debate “Novi Sad 1748-2018 – From the Petrovaradin Šanac to the European Capital of Culture” as part of the celebration of the Official Day of the City of Novi Sad, and marking the 270th anniversary of the acquisition of the status of the Free Royal City. The idea behind the public debate, and its goal, is to provide answers to the always up-to-date questions related to the character of historical, political, cultural and, generally, sociological circumstances that initiated identity, spiritual and urban development of the settlement, created as a field fortification, defined as a defensive combat habitation for the purpose of defending the Petrovaradin fort, into the a kind of syncretic symbol that interweaves rich interethnic traditions of civic Novi Sad and rich Serbian and European heritage from this area, with the particular emphasis on the fact that the above mentioned symbol is crowned and enriched with prestigious status and titles “the Youth” and “The European Capital of Culture” for 2019 and 2021.
At the forthcoming public debate, interlocutors will be our distinguished guests: Mayor of the City of Novi Sad Mr. Milos Vučević; Director of the City Library in Novi Sad Mr. Dragan Kojić, and renowned Serbian historian and General Manager of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Novi Sad Mr. Siniša Jokić MA. Moderator during the public debate will be historian from Novi Sad Mr. Srđan Graovac.
